Upon my graduation in Mechanical Engineering from Singapore Polytechnic, I joined a Japanese MNC and worked as a Quality Assurance(QA) Assistant for a year before joining Panasonic Factory Solutions Asia Pacific as a Purchasing Assistant in 1990. One of the primary reasons was the given opportunity to pursue a role that is more business management oriented such as Procurement. During the non-digital era, we had to issue manual Purchase Orders using typewriters and performed physical checks upon the arrival of goods. Over the years, our company has evolved and implemented various systems to automate our workflow processes. The working environment at Panasonic Factory Solutions Asia Pacific then and now has been very pleasant as both my colleagues and superiors are very easy-going, friendly and approachable. I still remember how my very first direct superior took the extra effort to guide us on suppliers’ management and instill good negotiation skills during our on-the-job training.
At Panasonic Factory Solutions Asia Pacific, employee development is given utmost importance and we are always encouraged to take on new challenges and in parallel we are also provided with many opportunities in different roles through job rotation to expand our learning horizons. Personally for me, I had the opportunity to work in various departments over the years and made appropriate contributions to improve our daily work activities through change management. At present, I am working in the Factory Planning Department mainly focusing on digital transformation of the Factory operations. I have gained vast experience in manufacturing and also other aspects of supply chain such as production control and inventory management. I also attained new working experience in Corporate Planning, managing Corporate and Legal matters as well as government-related projects. As part of my advanced career progression and personal development, I also pursued an Economics degree on a part-time basis at the University of London.
The top management at Panasonic Factory Solutions Asia Pacific are commendable, very down-to-earth and friendly. They do not differentiate you by your job grade or seniority level. In other words, they consistently promote open work culture and encourage employees to voice out our opinion(s) through direct engagements with them. Personally, I believe this is an excellent initiative to inculcate positive work culture within our company.
